Ex Libris opens Italy unit

Research conducted by the company showed the region's potential is around €10 million over the next 3-4 years.

Jerusalem-based library automation software developer Ex Libris Group announced today the opening of wholly owned subsidiary Ex Libris Italy. The opening of the office follows the company’s acquisition of Atlantis s.r.l., the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris products in Italy and Slovenia since 1989.

Ex Libris president and CEO Matti Shem Tov said that market research conducted by the company showed the region's potential is around €10 million over the next 3-4 years.

The establishment of the unit, at an investment of €2 million, is part of an expansion process in Europe. Marc Daubach is corporate VP and general manager Europe. The subsidiary is the tenth Ex Libris office in the world.

Liliana Morotti previously chief operations officer and marketing director at Atlantis - will assume the role of general manager of Ex Libris Italy, and will be responsible for sales and marketing in Italy and Slovenia.

The first Ex Libris distributorship worldwide, Atlantis was central in introducing, implementing, and supporting the entire Ex Libris product suite in the Italian and Slovenian market. Among the institutions running Ex Libris products in these countries are the Bank of Italy, the National and University Library in Slovenia, the universities of Genova, Firenze, Padova, and Siena, and the Camera dei Deputati and Senato della Repubblica--the two institutions that make up the Italian parliament.

“The very long friendship between Ex Libris and Atlantis began back in the 1980s, in the early days of library automation,” said Atlantis s.r.l. general manager Erwin Linthout.
