Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) unit Jazz Semiconductor, and Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), announced volume production of Entropic’s new multi-mode hybrid silicon tuner, EN4020.
Entropic is a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops, and markets systems solutions to enable connected home entertainment and multimedia.
The EN4020 is set to be used for products such as high-definition TV, digital TV (DTV), cable and terrestrial set-top boxes, and multi tuner digital video recorders (DVR, PVR) .
Techno Systems Research, Inc analyst Hiroko Ishii said, “In 2009, we are estimating that the fixed reception silicon tuner market is 170M units, with that number nearly doubling to over 300M units by 2013." Ishii ascribed the anticipated growth to demand for high performance DTV and cable and terrestrial set-top boxes.
