National Roads wants more private road maintenance

Two new road maintenance tenders are each worth several hundred million shekels.

Israel National Roads Company Ltd. is planning to expand the privatization of road maintenance two weeks after announcing the winner in the first private road maintenance tender.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that the National Roads Company is moving forward on two more public finance initiative (PFI) tenders, each worth several hundred million shekels. The company has presented to Minister of Transport Israel Katz its plan to expand the program to two new sections: in the center of the country and in the south. Katz approved the plan in principle.

Last week, the National Roads Company announced that Shikun u'Binui Holdings Ltd. (Housing and Construction) (TASE: HUCN) subsidiary Shikun u'Binui Solel Boneh Building and Infrastructure Ltd. won the NIS 1.3 billion tender to maintain 270 kilometers of roads in the Galilee over a 20-year period.
