Civil Aviation Authority calls to limit El Al Eilat flights

The Civil Aviation Authority also advises that customers should not be allowed use El Al frequent flier points.

The Israel Civil Aviation Authority advises Minister of Transport Israel Katz not to allow El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) to make more than two daily flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Eilat, and no more than five days a week.

The Civil Aviation Authority wrote a position paper at Katz's request, after he announced that he intended to allow El Al to fly the domestic route.

Civil Aviation Authority director general Giora Rom also said that customers should not be allowed use El Al frequent flier points, accumulated on the carrier's international routes, to pay for tickets on the Ben Gurion-Eilat route. The ban is aimed at preventing El Al from obtaining an unfair advantage over Arkia Airlines Ltd. and Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd., which have no frequent flier clubs.
