NASA deal lifts Tower share

Subsidiary Jazz will provide its SERDES solution for the NASA Lunar Atmosphere Dust Environment Explorer mission.

Specialty foundry Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) subsidiary Jazz Semiconductor Inc. with its partner Advanced Science and Novel Technology Company (ADSANTEC) will provide their SERDES solution has been selected by NASA for its Lunar Atmosphere Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) mission. Tower did not disclose the value of the deal.

The LADEE mission will orbit the Moon in order to characterize the lunar dust environment to determine the global density, composition, and time variability of the fragile lunar atmosphere before it is perturbed by further human activity and will deliver optical data at a rate of above 500 megabytes per second. The launch date for the mission is scheduled for May 1, 2012,

Tower's share closed at $1.08 on Nasdaq yesterday, giving a market cap of $201 million, and rose 3.7% in premarket trading today. The share rose 4.7% by midday on the TASE to NIS 4.12.
