Baran takes Intel fight to gov't

Baran has asked Industry Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer to review grants to Intel.

Baran Group (TASE: BRAN; Pink Sheets:BRANF) is taking its fight with Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) to the government, after the companies sued and counter-sued each other in court. "Globes" has obtained a copy of letter from Baran to Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Benjamin Ben-Eliezer and ministry director general Sharon Kidmi asking them to review grants to Intel.

Baran CEO Dr. Elhanan Abramov wrote, "One hand of the corporation asks for, and receives, large grants from the state, while at the same time the other hand refuses to pay an Israeli company the money it is legally owed."

In its NIS 43 million lawsuit, Baran alleges that Intel has not paid it in full for buildings constructed as part of Intel's Fab 28 in Kiryat Gat. In the NIS 100 million counter-suit, Intel claims that Baran is behind schedule on construction of the new Intel building in Haifa. Baran claims that Intel is responsible for the delays, because they are caused by subcontractors hired by Intel.

The offices of Ben-Eliezer and Kidmi declined to comment on the matter.
