New mass transit head: Tel Aviv light rail will roll

Michael Ratzon: The Dan region light rail project is the most complicated and challenging infrastructure project every built in Israel.

Former MK Michael Ratzon has been confirmed as the new chairman of NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System, and committed to the Tel Aviv light rail project. The board of NTA certified Ratzon's appointment over the weekend.

Ratzon served with the Likud in the Knesset in 1996 and again between 2003 and 2006. In 2003-2004 he was the deputy Minister of Industry, Trade, and Labor.

After his appointment, Ratzon said that the train will roll. "We are at a point of no return, where the citizens of Israel expect that in the near future, NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System will begin carrying out the mission for reaching a solution to the traffic troubles in Israel, and that means the Tel Aviv light rail.

Ratzon continued, "The Dan region light rail project is the most complicated and challenging infrastructure project every built in Israel, and the most important one."

NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System is a government company, set up in 1997 to solve the transportation problems in metropolitan Tel Aviv.
