Maiman leads in talks to buy Smile business

It is not clear what Maiman intends to do with the operations, and how they meld in with the rest of his businesses.

Israeli businessman Joseph Maiman is in advanced talks to buy the Internet services provider (ISP) and international calls business of 012 Smile.Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq:SMLC; TASE: SMLC for NIS 1.2 billion.

Maiman, one of the owners of Channel 10, is currently considered the leader in the race to acquire the businesses from Shaul Elovitch, and according to current estimates, there is a good chance that he will win the business. He will make the acquisition through Ampal-American Israel Corporation (Nasdaq: AMPL; TASE:AMPL).

It is not clear what Maiman intends to do with the operations, and how they meld in with the rest of his businesses, but he apparently maintains his communications dreams, and wants this to serve as a platform for his activities in the sector.
