The unemployment rate fell by 0.4% to 206,000 in November 2009, from 206,800 in October, in trend figures, the Israel National Employment Service (INES) reported today.
Employment Service director general Yossi Farhi said, "We can say that there has been a change in the trend in unemployment figures beginning in July. After the number of unemployed rose 25% from 168,900 in April 2008 to 211,200 in June 2009, the unemployment rate has been falling by an average of 0.5% per month, from 211,200 in June to 206,000 in November, a cumulative drop of 2.5%."
The Employment Service report for November states that 222,400 jobseekers applied to it during the month, up from 221,600 jobseekers in October, an increase of 850 persons. Excluding seasonal factors and the holidays in October, the number of jobseekers fell by 1% to 221,500 in November, down from 233,700 in October.
14,236 persons lost their jobs in November, up from 13,240 persons in October (original figures). 49% of the persons who lost their jobs were women and 51% were men. 5,475 persons aged 25-34 lost their jobs in November, the largest single age group.
