4,500 Toyota owners in Israel to fix "sticky" pedals

Toyota importer Union Motors has received chassis numbers of the affected cars and will contact the owners.

4,500 Israeli Toyota owners will be called to bring in their cars to have their gas pedals replaced, as part of the global recall that has sullied Toyota's reputation and led to production lines being shut down in the US.

Toyota importer Union Motors today received the chassis numbers of the cars covered by the recall, including Yaris, Auris, Avensis, and Verso. The popular Corolla sedan is not affected.

The car owners were located through the Motor Vehicles Bureau, and notifications were sent by mail today. Union Motors also intends to call the relevant car owners.

The recall for the problematic gas pedal systems has affected 5.3 million of Toyota cars worldwide so far. Toyota says that the gas pedals are, in rare circumstances, liable to stick in the down position, or return only slowly to the rest position, causing unexpected acceleration.

Yesterday, Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE: TM; LSE: TYT; TSE: 7203) also announced that flaws had been discovered in the production line of its Prius hybrid.
