Teva chairman Eli Hurvitz takes medical leave of absence

Prof. Moshe Many, a long-time member of the board, will serve as acting chairman.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq:TEVA; TASE:TEVA) today announced that its chairman Eli Hurvitz is taking a medical leave of absence.

In an official statement the company said, "Eli Hurvitz has responded successfully to therapy for a recently diagnosed illness. Mr. Hurvitz is taking a leave of absence of approximately three weeks in order to allow for recuperation from his treatment. During this time, Professor Moshe Many, a long-time member of the Board, will temporarily stand in for Mr. Hurvitz as Chairman of the Board."

The statement concluded, "We wish Mr. Hurvitz a speedy recovery and anticipate his prompt return to his normal routine."

Tomorrow morning Teva will announce its financials for the fourth quarter and full year 2009.

Teva's share rose 0.96% on Nasdaq on Friday to $58.86, giving a market cap of $51.86 billion. Teva's share was up 1.41% to NIS 222.50 in early afternoon trading on the TASE.
