DSP core maker Ceva Inc. (Nasdaq:CEVA); LSE:CVA) has licensed its CEVA-XC communications processor to fabless semiconductor company Beceem Communications Inc. to power the company's next-generation 4G multi-mode platform, the BCS500. The BCS500 is the industry's first chip that can support all combinations of LTE and WiMAX.
Ceva did not disclose the size of the deal.
Last week, 4G chipmaker Sequans Communications licensed the CEVA-X1641 DSP core for its next generation LTE and WiMAX processors. Today's deal, together with that one, puts Ceva at the heart of next generation chips being produced by the industry's major chip developers.
Ceva developed the XC platform to specifically meet the next-generation 4G terminal and infrastructure markets. The platform's architecture has been specifically designed to overcome the limitations of hardwired architectures when developing high-performance 4G communications processors. By adopting a single and fully programmable CEVA-XC core Beceem will be able to support both LTE and WiMAX 4G standards within its new chip.
Ceva also recently announced that ArrayComm LLC will use Ceva's XC DSP core on ArrayComm’s LTE products.
Ceva VP marketing Eran Briman said, “Ceva has a long history of partnering with industry-leading technology suppliers to develop market-specific, system on a chip (SoC) products to minimize design costs and time-to-market."
Ceva's share closed at $11.44 on Nasdaq on Friday, giving a market cap of $228 million. The share opened at ₤6.50 in London today.
