Partner plans IPTV for IEC project

IEC CEO Amos Lasker yesterday revealed that he plans setting up a subsidiary in a 50% partnership with a private company for IEC's communications activities.

Sources inform "Globes" that Partner Communications Co. Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE:PTNR; LSE:PCCD) controlled by Ilan Ben-Dov plans introducing TV transmissions via the Internet. The IPTV will be part of the technological trials that Partner is conducting with the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) in Kiryat Shmona.

Partner's aim is to connect the world of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTV) with its content as part of the Orange Time portal. The trials with IEC are about to begin. Each company taking part will link up to 10 apartment buildings.

Other companies taking part include 012 Smile.Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq:SMLC; TASE: SMLC), Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL), NetVision Ltd. (TASE: NTSN) and Mirs.
