Nt'l Insurance reports sharp drop in unemployment claims

Despite the fall, June's unemployment figures only indicate a stabilizing of the situation compared with May.

The National Insurance Institute reported a 24% drop in new unemployment claims in the first half of 2010 compared with the corresponding half of 2009. The National Insurance Institute also reported a 9% fall in overall unemployment claims in the first half of 2010.

Despite the sharp fall, June's figures only indicates a stabilizing of the situation compared with May. In June, according to seasonally adjusted figures, 14,600 new claims were submitted to the National Insurance Institute. This trend is in line with the latest data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, which showed unemployment unchanged at 6.9% in May and June.
