IDF to buy Storm 3 vehicles

The Storm (Sufa) 3 jeeps are made by Nazareth-based Automotive Industries Ltd.

After a long technical and financial review, the IDF will buy hundreds of Storm (Sufa) 3 jeeps made by Nazareth-based Automotive Industries Ltd.

The jeeps are built to IDF specifications. They are heavier, at 3.5 tons, have improved storage capacity, and have a strong turbo-diesel engine. They are built from the outset with the ability to add protective layers.

The jeeps will be acquired in a complicated deal. It includes buying kits in the US, to be put together and armored in Israel. The kits are bought with US military aid to Israel funds.

The value of the entire deal, for over 500 units, is estimated at NIS 1.5 million.

At the same time, the IDF is considering the option of buying heavier armored vehicles, based on a Dodge Ram 4500 chassis. The new vehicle is currently being developed by Automotive Industries Ltd. to replace the Abir, with an eye to the exports market.
