Teva to sell over the counter medicines in UK

The generic pharmaceuticals giant said the move is its next logical step.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) will begin to sell more than twenty over the counter medications in drugstores in the UK.

The company reported its plan to begin the sales this autumn.

The medications are for pain relief, allergy treatment, stomach aches, and medicines to treat the symptoms of the flu.

According to the generic pharmaceuticals giant, the entrance into the over the counter market is the next logical step in its business plan, with a wave of new product launches planned for the beginning of 2011.

Teva shares dropped 1.5% in morning trading in New York. They closed yesterday at $54.26.
