Pelagic Explorations Company today announced that it has brought forward to December 5 the second stage of the 3D seismic survey of its offshore gas exploration leases. The upcoming survey will be larger than originally planned and will cover a 516-square kilometer area on the western part of two of Pelagic licenses: Lela and Yahav.
Last month, Pelagic completed the 3D seismic survey of the 1,039-square kilometer area of the eastern part of four licenses: Aditya, Ishai, Lela, and Yoad. The Pelagic licenses are near the Leviathan structure.
When the second stage of the 3D seismic survey is completed, the data from both surveys will be combined into a pre-stack depth migration (PSDM) 3D seismic survey. PSDM is a methodology for modeling seismic images to accurately determine the geologic structure of oil and gas reserves, thereby facilitating subsequent activity.
Altogether, the 3D seismic surveys, covering an area of 1,555-square kilometers of Pelagic's licenses, should be completed by April 2011. Analysis of the results will help Pelagic pick up the pace of development of its licenses.
