60 local authorities seek water corporation exemption

Union of Local Authorities head: The struggle goes on until water prices are lowered.

Following "Globes" report that Minister of the Interior Eli Yishai plans exempting local authorities from the obligation to set up water corporations to manage their water systems, Union of Local Authorities in Israel head Shlomo Bohbot said, "This is a welcome step by minister Yishai but until water prices to the public are lowered we cannot end the struggle that we all want to avoid. Through lack of choice we will resume the struggle in the coming weeks."

Among 60 local authorities that have asked for an exemption from setting up water corporations to manage their water and sewage systems are: Or Yehuda, Or Akiva, Binyamina-Givat Ada, Bet Shean, Givat Shmuel, Gedera, Ganei Tikvah, Daliyat El-Carmel, Zichron Ya'akov, Taibe, Tirat HaCarmel, Yehud-Neve Monoson, Kfar Shmariyahu, Kfar Tabor, Lahavim, Majdel Shams, Mazkeret Batya, Nahariya, Nesher, Savion, Omer, Afula, Pardes Hanna, Kiryat Bialik, Kiryat Malachi, Rosh Pina, Rehovot, Ramat Gan, Shderot and Shoham.
