Regional C'ttee approves Jerusalem's Cinema City

The NIS 125 million project will include 15-screen multiplex with 2,390 seats.

The Jerusalem Regional Planning and Building Commission has approved for deposit the plan by New Lineo Cinemas (2006) Ltd. to build a Cinema City above the National Government Center parking garage. The Jerusalem Local Planning and Building Commission approved the project in February.

The NIS 125 million project will include 15-screen multiplex with 2,390 seats. The project required a special permit, as the lot is zoned only for parking.

The National Government Center parking garage has 1,800 parking spaces and a bus park for use by government employees and visitors to the ministries nearby. Use of the garage has been far below expectations, and gave rise to use the site for an entertainment complex. The complex will be underground so it will not affect the public buildings and National Square planned for the roof of the parking garage. The building's ground floor at the square will include a visitors' center, public buildings, and a commercial center.

New Lineo, owned by Moshe and Leon Edery, owns Cinema City Ltd., which has multiplexes in Ramat Hasharon and Rishon LeZion, and it is planning a NIS 600 million Disney park in Haifa.
