Cloud computing co Ravello Systems raises $11m

Ravello is the fourth start-up founded by Benny Schnaider and Rami Tamir.

New enterprise cloud computer systems developer Ravello Systems Ltd. yesterday raised $11 million from Sequoia Capital, NVP, the company's founders Benny Schnaider and Rami Tamir, and private investors.

This is the fourth start-up founded by Schnaider and Tamir. Three years ago, in September 2008, they sold Qumranet Inc. to Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT) for $107 million. Sequoia and NVP were both investors in Qumranet.

"We believe that within a few years, cloud services will become a consumer product, but that it needs help to do so," said Tamir.

"We're applying the same models that worked before, and we hope that they will work this time too," he added. "We want to do it big time, but you can never know how things will turn out."

Cloud computing has changed since Schaider and Tamir founded Qumranet in 2005. The balance of power in the enterprise market has become more complex, and products must become better at speaking directly to end users.
