Alvarion deploys WiMAX in Mexico

The eJalisco WiMAX Network will provide Internet connectivity for thousands of previously unconnected students, libraries, colleges, and government offices.

Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) has deployed its BreezeMAX WiMAX solution in Mexico's Jalisco State. The eJalisco WiMAX Network will provide Internet connectivity for thousands of previously unconnected students, libraries, colleges, and government offices, and will make many online government services widely accessible. .

Alvarion did not disclose the size of the contract.

The system was deployed through Alvarion's Mexican partner, Hemac. Hemac CEO Hector Mario Chavira said, “With an education system that annually graduates more than 5 thousand engineers in different disciplines, the ability to scale to accommodate the growing number of mobile users, sophisticated network-connected devices, and network traffic has also become a priority."

Alvarion's share price rose 8.3% on Nasdaq on Tuesday to $1.04, giving a market cap of $65 million, and rose 8.1% on the TASE today to NIS 3.91.
