Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini has taken control of the Israel Railways workers' struggle. After a meeting with the Israel Railways workers committee today, they agreed that Eini would personally manage the workers' struggle and negotiations with Israel Railways management.
Another important decision taken at the meeting is that, from now on, only Eini will approve any industrial action by the railway workers. In other words, the Israel Railways workers committee can no longer shut down the railways in a wildcat strike, like the one of the past few days. The wildcat strike resulted in the Labor Court fining Israel Railways workers committee chairwoman Gila Edri and two other leader NIS 10,000 each.
This morning, Edri appeared before the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee, where she launched a bitter attack against the Israel Railways management. She claimed that Israel Railways CEO Boaz Tzafrir responded to the threat of a strike by saying, "That suits me." She also lambasted her critics, asking, "Why are you all against us? Have you no empathy?"
