Court rejects David Appel's appeal against bribery conviction

The court also rejected the State Prosecutor's demand to make the three and ha half year prison sentence more severe.

The Tel Aviv District Court today rejected David Appel's appeal against his conviction for bribery. The building contractor will begin serving a three and a half year prison sentence on April 30.

Appel was convicted in 2010 on three counts of bribery to advance his interests to heads of local authorities and the Israel Land Administration.

The court also rejected the State Prosecutor's demand to make the sentence more severe.

However, the three judge panel did reduce the NIS 678,000 fine that had been imposed on Appel.

After the verdict today Appel continued to maintain his innocence. He said, "Let them show me that I gave a single shekel to somebody. If they accused me of murdering Arlozorov, I'd be found guilty.
