Eilat is calm this morning after a Grad rocket was fired at the Red Sea resort last night falling in open space in the western part of the city. No injuries or damage to property were reported, although several people were suffering from shock. The rocket was probably fired from Sinai but no organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
“IDF Radio" (Galei Zahal) reported that the rocket fell near a construction site in Eilat's Shachmon neighborhood, while shrapnel landed as close as 10 meters away from houses.
Following the incident and with the Passover holidays beginning tomorrow, Israel Police have raised the level of alert throughout the country to just one level below the highest.
The rocket fell in Eilat close to midnight, and dozens of residents reported hearing loud explosions. The army and police began combing the area where the explosions came from and an hour later found the remains of the rocket.
Police are continuing to comb the area to see if the remains of additional rockets can be found.
As Eilat gears up for the Passover holiday rush, Mayor Meir Yitzhak-Halevy said that there were no cancellations at the city's hotels.
