Apple importer iDigital sold 8,550 of the new iPads over the weekend directly and through Office Depot stores.
There was a very successful start to the sell of new iPads in Israel over the weekend with Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) franchisee iDigital Ltd. reporting that 8,550 were sold either directly or through Office Depot stores.
iDigital said that it sold 5,700 iPads in its four branches in Israel while 850 were sold via the Internet and 2,000 by Office Depot, which imports the iPads through iDigital.
The most popular models were the 32 and 64 giga wireless Internet versions although there were also good sells of the 16 giga version with a cellular modem.
Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) stores have also begun selling the new iPads. The 16 giga version with a cellular modem costs NIS 3,132. Customers buying a 3 giga package will pay NIS 130 per month.
