Jerusalem Tel Aviv highway tender awarded

Mordechai Binyamin & Sons has won the tender to upgrade Road 1 between Sha'ar Hagai and Shoresh.

Infrastructure construction company Mordechai Binyamin & Sons Earthworks (1993) Ltd. has won the Israel National Roads Company Ltd. tender to upgrade the Jerusalem Tel Aviv highway (Road 1) between Sha'ar Hagai and Shoresh. The work on the 6.5 kilometer stretch will begin later this year and be completed in three and a half years.

This is the first stage of an ambitious project to upgrade Road 1 between Sha'ar Hagai and Jerusalem, which includes a tunnel beneath the Castel and a bridge cutting off the corner at the Motza curve.

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz said, "The new Road 1 to Jerusalem being built by the Israel National Roads Company and the fast rail link currently being built will be a real revolution linking the capital with Tel Aviv. According to forecasts, when the project is completed, the journey time between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem will be cut by 20 minutes."
