Jerusalem Municipality issues Bet Agron student hostel tender

The project is part of the Jerusalem Municipality's attempts to revive the city center by bringing back institutions of higher education and students.

Jerusalem Municipality's Eden Central Jerusalem Development Co. Ltd. has issued a tender for building and operating student hostel accommodation totaling 200 beds. The tender winner will be entitled to operate the project for 25 years.

The project is part of the Jerusalem Municipality's attempts to revive the city center by bringing back institutions of higher education and students. In the first stage in January 2011, Bezalel Academy of Art and Design won the tender to have student hostels in the city center and charge rent of NIS 1,200 per month.

The latest tender is to build and operate the hostels on the site of Beit Agron in Jerusalem's Hillel Street near Nahlat Shiva. The project covering 7,500 square meters includes 6,300 square meters of student residences and 1,200 square meters of commercial space. Jerusalem Municipality said it involves, "Construction on the Beit Agron and Beit Mehandesim site comprising two parts: a new six-floor building, and adding four floors to Bet Mehandesim."

Jerusalem Municipality wants the project up and rented to students within three years.
