IMI strike averted

The Knesset Finance Committee will discuss NIS 150 million in financing for Israel Military Industries.

Notwithstanding yesterday's announcement of a strike to begin today at Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI) over the non-payment of salaries, work is continuing routinely, after talks continued into the night between Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini, Histadrut Trade Unions chairman Avi Nissenkoren, IMI CEO Avi Felder and chairwoman Nitza Posner, IMI workers committee chairman Itzik Yehuda, and Ministry of Finance representatives.

The parties agreed to hold intensive talks on unresolved issues, including teh restructuring of the company to adapt structures to the current size of the workforce, following the retirement of 1,000 employees, and moving to the Negev.

On the basis of this agreement, MK Shai Hermesh (Kadima), chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee Subcommittee on the Privatization of IMI, will convene the Finance Committee today to approve NIS 150 million in financing for the company.

IMI's management said that the outstanding issue that needs to be settled in order to proceed with the privatization of the company was the restructuring, which had been discussed with the workers committee over the past several months, in order to reach understandings on a suitable structure for IMI's operations.

The dispute between IMI's management and employees is over the non-payment of salaries for June.
