IDF prevents mega-terror attack

The Egypt-Gaza-Israel border is calm after the IDF killed 5 terrorists who had killed 15 Egyptian policemen, and attempted to attack Israel.

A senior IDF officer told Channel 2 News this morning that the Global Jihad terrorists who infiltrated into Israel from the Sinai via Gaza last night, killing some 15 Egyptian policemen, had planned a "mega terror" attack on Israel. The arra is quiet this morning. The officer said that the terrorists, who were killed by IDF gunfire, had on their bodies many weapons, and had they succeeded in penetrating deep into Israeli territory there could have been many fatalities. The IDF officer added that local residents had responded very well and this had aided the IDF in completing its task.

IDF spokesman Brigadier General Yoav Mordechai said that the terror attack had been planned well. He said, "The Global Jihad terrorists that attacked the Egyptian army outpost in the Sinai and killed about 15 policemen and then hijacked an armored vehicle and tried to enter Israel. They carried on driving while shooting into Israeli territory."

IDF personnel who were in the area assisted by helicopters fired on the terrorists' hijacked vehicles. After the exchange of fire, the IDF recovered the bodies of five slain terrorists together with large amounts of arms. The area was combed for several hours before the IDF announced that no terrorists had infiltrated into Israel. Residents of the Eshkol Region have been told this morning that they can return to their routine. However, residents were also warned to remain close to shelters or reinforced rooms lest there be rocket fire from Gaza.
