Netanyahu congratulates Obama on reelection

"The strategic alliance between Israel and the US is stronger than ever."

"The strategic alliance between Israel and the US is stronger than ever. I will continue to work with President Obama in order to assure the interests that are vital to the security of the citizens of Israel," said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he congratulated US President Barack Obama on his reelection.

Labor Party chairwoman MK Shelly Yachimovich also congratulated Obama, saying, "Your victory is due to your achievements during your first term. I greatly admire your striving to bring change to American society, its agenda, and the values that you promote, which are shared by the world - equality, fair and economics, and the government's responsibility to its citizens. I wish you great success in your efforts to promote peace and freedom around the world. We in Israel expect the special relationship of a real friendship and alliance between Israel and America to continue. We congratulate you because your global leadership will create a better and safer future in our region and across the world."

The Associated Press, and the major US television networks, called the election for Obama after declaring early this morning that he had won the pivotal swing state of Ohio.

In his victory tweet Obama said, "Four more years. I want you to know that this wasn't fate, and it wasn't an accident. You made this happen."
