GetTaxi extends service to Haifa

The app and service are now operating in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa as well as London, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

GetTaxi Ltd. has extended its taxi calling app and service to Haifa. In the initial phase the company has recruited 50 taxis in the northern port city. The Israeli start up already operates in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and the Haifa service brings the number of Israeli taxis working with the service to 600. GetTaxi also operates in London, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

GetTaxi's app enables users to hail a taxi directly from their smartphones without directly contacting a taxi station. The app identifies the closest taxi to the user with the driver's name and type of vehicle. Other features include the option of paying by credit card and receiving a receipt by email. The user can record the destination in advance and rate the taxi driver after the journey has been completed.

GetTaxi, which was founded in 2010 by Shahar Waiser and Roy Mor, raised $20 million six months ago in a financing round led by Len Blavatnik with investment from the founders. Blavatnik had previously invested $9.5 million in the company, which has raised $30 million to date.
