Lenovo leads laptop sales in Israel

Chinese company Lenovo displaced Dell in 2012 as Israel's best-selling laptop manufacturer.

Chinese electronics manufacturer Lenovo Group Ltd. (SEHK: 0992; OTCBB: LNVGY) beat the leading players in Israel laptop market in 2012, according to IDC Israel Research. Lenovo saw its laptop market share rise to 21.2% in Israel in 2012 from 16.3% the preceding year, enabling it to displace Dell Inc. (Nasdaq: DELL) as the country's best-selling laptop manufacturer.

In 2012, Taiwan's AsusTek Computer Inc. (TWSE: 2357; LSE: ASKD) was in second place with a laptop market share of 16%, up from 12.2% in 2011, and Hewlett Packard Co. (HP) (NYSE: HPQ) was in third place with a 15.2% market share, down from 17.1% in 2011. Dell slipped to fourth place with a market share of 15.2% compared with 21.3% in 2011 while Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. remained in fifth place with a market share of 9.6%, up slightly from 9.3% in 2011.

In total 426,526 laptops were sold in Israel in 2012 compared with 509,905 in 2011. However, sales of tablets rose from 187,749 in 2011 to 225,767 last year. Apple Inc. (AAPL) remains the best-selling table manufacturer in Israel with a 49.8% market share compared with 56.2% in 2011. Samsung is in second place with a 20.1% market share, up from 18.9% in 2011, and Asus was in third place with a market share of 11.7% last year, up from 5.9% in 2011.
