The unemployment rate rose to 6.9% of the civilian labor force in the second quarter of 2013 from 6.6% in the first quarter, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. The unemployment rate in June was unchanged from the previous month.
There were 3.42 million employed persons over the age of 15 and 253,000 unemployed in June, for a total workforce of 3.67 million people. Participation in the labor force was 63.7% in the second quarter, unchanged from the preceding quarter.
The proportion of full-time employees fell to 76.7% of the workforce in the second quarter from 77.3% in the preceding quarter.
The number of working men fell to 1.81 million in the second quarter from 1.82 million in the preceding quarter, and the number of working women rose to 1.6 million from 1.59 million.
