Finance C'ttee approves NIS 50m for West Bank settlements

The grants for freezing construction are designed to compensate for levies and fees that local authorities in Judea and Samaria will now no longer earn.

By a majority of four votes in favor and one against the Knesset Finance Committee today approved transferring NIS 50 million to settlements in Judea and Samaria. The money will be allocated to all those settlements that saw plans for new construction frozen due to the peace process.

Following a request from the Ministry of Finance, NIS 46 million will be transferred and defined as a "security grant" while a further NIS 4.5 million is a development grant for local authorities.

"Globes" investigation revealed that the grants for freezing construction are designed to compensate for levies and fees that local authorities in Judea and Samaria will now no longer earn.
