The company will close its remaining processor development activity in Israel.
After several rounds of layoffs in the past three years, chipmaker PMC-Sierra Inc. (Nasdaq: PMCS) is about to make another large round of layoffs in Israel. Sources inform ''Globes'' that the company will fire 50-60 employees next week and effectively close its remaining processor development activity in Israel.
PMC-Sierra made two acquisitions in Israel. It acquired Passave in 2006 and Wintegra in 2010. The company closed Passave's optical communications activity a long time ago, and it is now firing the remaining staff at Wintegra.
When the current wave layoffs is completed, PMC-Sierra will continue to have almost 100 employees at its development center in Herzliya.
