Israel's Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 0.1% in December to 102.3 points, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported this evening. The reading is in line with analysts' expectations with predictions ranging between a rise of 0.1% and 0.2%.
The small rise in prices in December was despite a sharp hike in the prices of fresh vegetables, which rose 4.5% and fashion and footwear, which rose 9.1%.
The rise was tempered by fresh fruit, which fell 0.9%, housing costs (down 0.3%), furniture and household items (down 0.6%), health (down 0.5%), and culture and entertainment (down 1.1%).
In 2013, the CPI rose 1.8%.
