The national rail operator needed to expand its management firm ties to handle NIS 30 billion in developments.

Seventeen Israeli management companies won the Israel Railways tender to manage its development projects, sources inform “Globes”. In the next five years, Israel Railways plans to invest NIS 30 billion in new projects. The number of projects continues to grow as passenger traffic increases each year, leading the company to expand the number of management firms beyond the current seven.

The contracts include a variety of different projects, including the construction of new stations, facilities, and complexes; the renovation of existing stations; the installation of additional tracks; and the construction of new lines. The tender was divided into three categories: projects under NIS 20 million, projects between NIS 20-100 million, and projects over NIS 100 million.

In one example, Tel Aviv HaShalom Railway Station is expected to undergo a NIS 17 million facelift in the next year and a half. The upgrade will include the addition of an exit path for passengers from the platform to the southern side of the HaShalom Bridge.

Tel Aviv Savidor Central Railway Station will be renovated to the tune of NIS 31.8 million. Haifa’s Carmel Beach Railway Station will also receive upgrades as will the stations in Binyamina, Caesarea-Pardes Hanna, Hadera, Netanya, and Rehovot.

The duration of the contract with the winning firms is one year, with the option for an additional two years. Israel Railways emphasized that projects will be assigned cyclically among the winners in each category according to the company’s judgment.

Israel Railways CEO Boaz Tzafrir said: “To implement Israel Railways’ massive development plan for the upcoming years most effectively, the company published a tender to increase the amount of management companies with which we have ties. The new tender was designed to provide Israel Railways a stable of reliable companies to best implement its projects.”
