Yuval Sigler has been appointed publisher. Bar-On: "Globes" will continue to be an important medium in Israel, while preserving its editorial independence.

Alona Bar-On notified 'Globes" employees yesterday that ownership of the Monitin-Globes group had officially been transferred to her and to Anat Agmon, in equal shares. Bar-On also announced the appointment of Yuval Sigler as publisher of "Globes".

Bar-On wrote to the employees: "Friends, that's it. We can celebrate. A new era is about to start at the Monitin-Globes group. I am happy and excited to be able to inform you that, a short while ago, control of the Monitin-Globes group founded by my father 34 years ago passed to Anat Agmon and to my family, in an equal partnership.

"I became acquainted with Anat in the past few months, but I already know that I could not dream of a more suitable partner. She is a person with values, initiative, and vision. From now on we are joint owners of this special media group, which includes "Globes, Israel's business newspaper; the Internet site that serves over 300,000 users daily; the Israel Business Conference; and a long list of activities and investments in media and technology.

"For the role of publisher we have chosen Yuval Sigler, the person thanks to whom the connection between me and Anat came about. Yuval is one of the most experienced and creative publishers in Israel's media industry. Anat and I believe that Yuval's vast experience in journalism and in creating innovative content will enable him to lead "Globes" to its rightful place.

"The board of directors that will lead the Monitin-Globes group will consist of Anat Agmon, Yuval Sigler, Eden Bar-Tal (formerly director general of the Ministry of Communications), and me, as chairperson of the group.

"We now have a rare opportunity to advance "Globes" towards a constantly changing digital future, to redefine it and its role, so that it will continue to be an important and influential medium in Israel's economic and public spheres, while preserving its editorial independence free of extraneous interests and influences - and we have no intention of compromising on that."

Alona Bar-On, whose family already owned one-third of the Globes-Monitin group, takes it over with Anat Agmon after winning a court battle to exercise her family's right of first refusal on the majority share owned by Eliezer Fishman and mortgaged to Bank Leumi, on which the bank foreclosed.
