After setting up a New York campus with Cornell University, the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology is now turning its attention to Tel Aviv. The Azrieli Foundation has donated NIS 21 million to the Tel Aviv branch of the Technion at the Sarona Center in central Tel Aviv, which will be called the "Technion Campus in Sarona named for Azrieli." The Technion's Unit for Continuing Education has been operating in the region since 1958.
In July 2013, the Unit moved to the Sarona Center. David Azrieli said, "Cooperation with the Technion continuing for decades stresses the importance we see in supporting higher education and education in Israel. Opening the Technion campus in Tel Aviv will allow for expansion and strengthening of entrepreneurship and innovation studies."
The donation will also be used to create a new MBA program in specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship that will be named for Azrieli.
In recent years the Azrieli Foundation has made major donations to the Technion in general and the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning in particular.
The Technion's Tel Aviv campus offers masters degrees programs for residents of central Israel.
The Azrieli Foundation, which was set up to support educational initiatives, has developed and operated over the past decade, programs to promote excellence in education in colleges and universities for academics and in schools to prevent youth dropping out from junior high schools.
