The Walt Disney Company's streamer Disney Plus has confirmed that it will be commencing operations in Israel in the summer as part of a launch of its services in 42 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Disney Plus streams films and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic as well as "The Simpsons," and more. The service includes content without ads and offers original and exclusive content including movies, drama series, documentaries, comedies, and cartoons.
Disney Plus's entry into Israel will have a major impact on local viewing habits and in recent months Israel's TV providers have been holding talks with Disney in London about local collaborations. Sources in the market think that Disney is most likely to cooperate with Yes, which is expanding its streaming services, just as Partner cooperates with Netflix.
Disney Plus will expect a commitment for at least 100,000 subscribers in any Israel cooperation deal. Netflix already has 500,000 subscribers in Israel and sources believe that Disney, which competes neck and neck with Netflix in the US, will not have a problem in eventually reaching that number, and will not struggle to gain subscribers in the way that Amazon Prime and Apple TV have.
Disney Plus has yet to reveal details about monthly subscription prices.
