The former Israeli Prime Minister begins a 19 month sentence on Monday for bribery and perverting the course of justice.

The Jerusalem Magistrates Court ruled this morning that the six months prison sentence handed down to former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for perverting the course of justice as part of a plea bargain will not run concurrently with the 18-month sentence he received for his bribery conviction on the Holyland affair.

The court ruled that one month out of the six month sentence will not be concurrent thus Olmert will spend an extra month in prison. Thus he will begin a 19 month sentence next week on Monday February 15.

Olmert was also given a four month conditional sentence for the 36 months aftr hnis release from prison as well as a NIS 50,000 fine.

Judge Avital Chen was not convinced by the arguments presented to the court that a full concurrence of the sentences was justified.
