The Public Utilities Authority (Electricity) is set to agree the lowering of rates in today's plenary session.

The Public Utilities Authority (Electricity) will approve a 9-11% fall in electricity rates in 2015 in a plenary session today, it has been agreed in principal in meetings on the subject. Minister of National Infrastructures, Energy and Water Resources Silvan Shalom had been pushing for a 15% fall in prices but he will have to make do with a more moderate drop, in part because of the weakness of the shekel.

Consumers can already look forward to other price falls next month with gasoline set to fall about NIS 0.60 per liter on January 1, having fallen NIS 0.27 in November and December due to the plunging price of oil on global markets.

In addition, water rates will fall 10% from January 1. Water rates will also fall 0.5% in July 2015 to complete a 15% fall over the past year.
