This promotion means that Meir Brand will now be responsible for Israel, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, Turkey, and Greece.

Google Israel CEO Meir Brand continues to consolidate his position at the Internet giant: sources inform “Globes” that under Google’s regional reorganization, Brand is being appointed to a significantly broader role, and will become Google Middle East, Russia and Turkey regional director.

This responsibility is in addition to the promotion he received three years ago, when he was made responsible for all of Africa, as well as his previous responsibilities for Greece and South Africa. This means that Brand will rule Israel, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, Turkey, and Greece. The appointment over the weekend is a sign of the company’s appreciation of Brand’s performance. Brand is one of the most senior Israelis at the Internet giant. A spokesperson for Google Israel confirmed the details.

Brand was the first Google Israel employee, when he established the local operation in 2005, and was appointed CEO of Google Israel. All told, Brand is responsible for a diverse area with a population of 1 billion, which includes, on the one hand, places like Israel, with an Internet-penetration rate of 81%, and on the other hand, countries in Africa, where the Internet-penetration rate is just 16%.

In the areas that Brand will be responsible for, there are five Google offices, and the CEOs will report directly to Brand. Brand will continue to operate from Israel. Brand will also join the Google EMEA (Europe Middle East and Asia) regional management team.
