Google is bringing back its Shopping IL festival, an event for online shopping that involved 125 businesses last year. This year, the specialized site by Google will host sales on November 11-12 from 300 businesses, including Castro, Renuar, Golf Kids, Delek Motors, SOHO, Arkia, and Delta.
Google claimed sales from last year's event totaled close to NIS 20 million, after half a million users visited the site, with 44% accessing the sale through their mobile phone, and 67% claiming they purchased from an Israeli site they had never visited before.
The US search giant estimates Shopping IL will reach NIS 30 million in sales this year. Google explained that the aim of the campaign was to expose Israeli consumers to local businesses with internet storefronts and thus raise awareness of the possibilities of online shopping.
Google wants both individuals and businesses to connect to the web. To that end, the businesses involved in the venture will not be required to pay for participating or promoting their online presence.
Google Israel CEO Meir Brand said, "One of the successes of the Shopping IL site was that so many businesses, specifically small businesses, were exposed to new audiences. This is a real growth engine for businesses and we want to encourage Israeli ventures, specifically small ones, and expand their online presence, thus helping grow the economy for the benefit of the Israeli consumer."
The event is sponsored in cooperation with Isracard, which will offer Mastercard's new service - MasterPass - which allows online payment without repeated entry of credit card details.
Google announced that all transactions during the event that use MasterPass will receive an additional NIS 30 discount, with certain restrictions.
