Hadassah on near total strike

The Jerusalem hospital will only handle life-saving procedures and births.

There is a general strike at Hadassah Medical Center. The Jerusalem hospital's employees did not receive their January salaries by midnight yesterday, and will therefore carry out their threat to launch a general strike today. After almost a week of working Saturday schedules, the hospital has further limited operations, and will only handle life-saving procedures and births.

Employees will demonstrate outside the Ministry of Finance. If no solution is found within the next 24 hours to enable the hospital to meet its payroll despite its difficult financial situation, all hospitals in Israel will again go on a two-hour solidarity strike on Tuesday.

Minister of Health Yael German told "Channel 2 News" yesterday evening that the Ministry of Health plans to end the practice of profligate salaries paid to senior Hadassah staff, and that it would seek a recovery plan for the veteran hospital.

"We have an action plan for Hadassah Medical Center. We're currently discussing a NIS 50 million loan. The intention is for a stay of proceedings, the appointment of a trustee, and to start managing the hospital in order to carry out a recovery plan," German said.
