The ports, government offices, municipalities and Egged are among those striking to protest layoffs at Israel Chemicals.

The Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) has published a list of public and private sector workers who will strike on Thursday in solidarity with Israel Chemicals (TASE: ICL: NYSE: ICL) employees.

Among those striking will be workers at Ashdod and Eilat ports, Eilat airport (between 10.00 am and 2 pm), most government offices, National Insurance Institute, courts, Israel Postal company, Paz, Delek and Sonol, municipalities, Egged, Ben Gurion University, Open University southern region, all Israel Chemicals plants, Perrigo in Yerucham, and more. There will be disruptions at Bezeq and Israel Electric Corp.

Workers throughout the south are protesting the 140 layoffs at Israel Chemicals' Bromine Compounds plants. The Histadrut, led by chairman Avi Nissenkorn, insists that the layoffs are a reprisal over the Sheshinski II Committee's recommendations to raise royalties on Israel Chemicals and there is no reason for layoffs at such a profitable company, and when senior management is earning millions annually. Israel Chemicals says the layoffs relate to loss making units and are therefore solely for streamlining.
