Israel and Bahrain have signed the joint declaration on establishing diplomatic relations, peace and friendship between the two countries. Israel was represented at the signing ceremony in Manama by Meir Ben-Shabbat, head of Israel's National Security Council, and director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alon Ushpiz. Bahrain was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked to Al Zayani and US Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, who was present at the ceremony. Netanyahu congratulated Al Zayani, and acclaimed the first Israeli flight to land in Bahrain. "This is a further breakthrough towards peace," he said.
At the ceremony a series of memoranda were signed, on economic cooperation, civil aviation, cooperation between the finance ministries of the two countries, communications and postal services, including technological cooperation, agriculture, cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries, and visa exemptions for diplomats. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Israeli and Bahraini federations of chambers of commerce.
