The 86 year-old billionaire also owned 22% of Mizrahi Tefahot Bank, 23.1% of Alony Hetz and 51% of Keshet.

Israeli businessman Moshe Wertheim, the controlling shareholder in the Central Bottling Company Group (Coca Cola Israel) and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) has died at 86 after a long illness.

Wertheim was born to an Orthodox Jewish family in Jerusalem. He served in the Palmach pre-state forces, fought in the War of Independence, served in the Mossad, and graduated from the first law course at the Hebrew University's Faculty of Law before becoming a lawyer.

He built his wealth around Coca Cola Israel and also fully owned the Tara dairy, Pri Gat fruit juices, Neviot mineral water, and the Israel Beer Brewery, which among other brands brews Carlsberg for the domestic market. He also owned 22% of Mizrahi Tefahot and 23.1% of real estate company Alony Hetz Property and Investments Ltd. (TASE: ALHE) and 51% of Channel 2 franchisee Keshet.

In recent years he has handed over the reins to his son David and to a lesser extent his daughter Drorit.
