The flares are designed to defend combat aircraft against ground and air-to-air missiles.
The US army is planning to procure $6 million worth of innovative decoy flares from Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI). IMI says that its unique flares are designed to provide defense against antiaircraft missiles and air-to-air missiles for combat planes and helicopters used by US army special forces. These missiles use the heat emitted by the planes and helicopters' engines to hone in on them.
The new flares deal is a continuation of the expansion of IMI's US business. In partnership with US company Raytheon, IMI recently won a $100 million US Marine Corp tender for development and production of an innovative GPS-guided precision 120-mm mortar shell.
