There were 5.4 million passenger rides on trains in March, up 17% from March 2015.

Israel Railways scored an all-time record in the number of passengers in March: 5.4 million rides, 17% more than the 4.6 million rides in March 2015 and 29% more than in March 2014. The previous record of 4.9 million rides was in November 2015.

Israel Railways said that the biggest increase in the number of rides was 25% on the Tel Aviv-Binyamina line (compared with the corresponding month last year). Rides were up 24% on the Ashkelon-Tel Aviv route and 19% on the Hod Hasharon-Tel Aviv route, compared with the corresponding period last year.

"Israel Railways is making major investments in improving passenger service, increasing train frequencies, increasing seating capacity on trains, and of course opening new railway stations," Israel Railways CEO Boaz Tzafrir said. "We're delighted with the public's trust, and are preparing for continued improvement in service for our customers."
